Essence Festival 2020 Officially Postponed
Essence Festival 2020 in New Orleans officially postponed due to the Coronavirus.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell made the announcement of the postponement Friday evening.
"With the significant spread of COVID-19, we are taking every precaution in the best interest of our residents, visitors, and all who attend and make Essence the worldwide phenomenon that it is. We look forward to welcoming everyone back — from near and far — and express our deepest gratitude to all who are helping our city, state and nation get through this rapidly evolving crisis," Cantrell said.
Essence Fest organizers have not given exact dates on when the event will return, except to say that it would occur "closer to the fall."
The annual festival features forums, discussions and evening music performances. Events take place at the New Orleans Convention Center and the Mercedes Benz Superdome.
