February 7, 2019 would have been Sandra Bland 32nd birthday but according to the police in Hempstead, Waller County, Texas she hung herself inside of a jail cell on July 13, 2015, three days after being arrested for a traffic stop by DPS. Sandra only needed $500 to bond out of jail. They also said that the garbage bag used to commit suicide did not have any finger prints on it. For some reason, whenever Black people die via cops or jail cells, there are more questions than answers. The documentary movie, “Say My Name” was shown on Sandra’s birthday at Wildflower Church in Austin, Texas. After the movie, a panel discussion was held by Fatima Mann, Meme Styles and Farah Muscadin. The panel and the women in the audience had different viewpoints concerning the movie. Some thought more family members should have been in the movie and the unification of Black organizations shown as of now while others thought that the producers were doing the best job possible with the information they had at the time and as each person watched the movie and time pasted, viewpoints were constantly evolving. © 2019 Michael Lewis Global Photography All Rights Reserved
