Willie Nelson Statue Ceremony April 20 2012
Willie Nelson sang his new song “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die” on Friday, April 20, 2012 during the unveiling of an eight foot statue of himself in downtown Austin Texas in front of the new Moody Theater where the Austin City Limits Studio is currently located. This day just happens to be a national day of protest for the legalization of marijuana. Organizers did not intentionally select April 20 for the event, but once they found out about the day, they scheduled the unveiling of the Willie Nelson statue at 4:20p.m. to reference Willie’s openness about his marijuana use and advocacy for the legalization of it.
Willie Nelson is a 10 time Grammy Award winner and has sold more than 40 million copies of his 150 albums.
