One of the great singer-songwriters of our time, Mellencamp rose to fame in the 1980s and has evolved into one of rock’s most enduring acts, championing and giving voice to the small-town experience. He hit the scene with a string of Top 10 singles, beginning with 1982’s "Hurts So Good", followed by "Jack & Diane", "Crumblin' Down", "Pink Houses", "Lonely Ol' Night", "Small Town", "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.", "Paper in Fire", and "Cherry Bomb". He has amassed 22 Top 40 hits in the United States and has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards, winning one. Mellencamp is a member of the Rock and Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame, a recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, ASCAP Foundation’s Champion Award, The Woody Guthrie Award, the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and most recently, the Founders Award, the top honor assigned by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
